What You Need to Claim Your Profile

The claim form asks for three pieces of information. Understanding how each one is used helps you prepare and speeds up approval.

01

Phone OTP β€” if your phone number is on the profile

If your profile lists a phone number, you can verify your identity instantly using a one-time passcode (OTP). We send a 6-digit code via SMS to the number on file β€” enter it on the claim form to confirm you own that number.

  • The OTP is sent to the phone number that is already publicly listed on your profile β€” not a number you enter manually.
  • The code expires after 10 minutes. If it expires, you can request a new one from the same screen.
  • Standard SMS rates may apply depending on your carrier.
  • If the phone number on your profile is outdated or no longer yours, use the Additional Information form instead.

Tip: Phone OTP is the fastest verification path β€” it takes under 60 seconds if your number is current and you have your phone with you.

02

Email OTP β€” if your email address is on the profile

If your profile lists an email address, you can verify via a one-time passcode (OTP) sent to that address. We send a 6-digit code to the email on file β€” enter it on the claim form to confirm you control that inbox.

  • The OTP is sent to the email address that is already publicly listed on your profile β€” not an email you provide during the claim.
  • The code expires after 10 minutes. If it expires, you can request a new one from the same screen.
  • If you do not see the email within a couple of minutes, check your spam or junk folder.
  • If the email on your profile is outdated or no longer accessible, use the Additional Information form instead.

Tip: Email OTP is available when your profile has a listed email. It is a quick and seamless option if you still have access to that inbox.

03

Additional Information β€” if no phone or email is on the profile

If your profile does not list a phone number or email address, or if those details are outdated, you can verify your identity by submitting additional information for manual review by our team.

  • Your state/provincial bar number β€” this is the most reliable way to confirm you are a licensed attorney.
  • Your law firm website URL, so we can cross-reference your name and contact details.
  • Any discrepancy between the profile data and your current information (e.g. name spelling, outdated address).
  • If you represent a firm with multiple attorneys, clarify which specific profile you are claiming.

Tip: Including your bar number almost always results in same-day approval. It is the single most useful piece of information you can submit through this form.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the claim review take?

Most claims are reviewed within 1–2 business days. Claims with a bar number included in the Additional Information field are typically approved the same day.

What if my profile has incorrect information?

Once your claim is approved, you will be able to edit all profile fields directly β€” name, phone, address, practice areas, languages, and more. You can also flag incorrect information in the Additional Information field when submitting your claim.

Is claiming a profile free?

Yes. Claiming a basic profile is completely free. A Premium subscription is available for lawyers who want additional features such as enhanced visibility, featured placement, and direct contact forms.

What if someone else has already claimed my profile?

If your profile has been claimed by someone else, please contact us immediately at team@dv.support with your bar number and proof of identity. We take fraudulent claims seriously and will investigate promptly.

Can I remove my profile instead of claiming it?

Yes. If you do not wish to appear in the DV.Support directory, you can request profile removal by emailing team@dv.support or using the "Request Profile Removal" link on your profile page.

I practise in multiple states β€” which profile should I claim?

You can claim one profile per licensed jurisdiction. If you have multiple profiles across states, submit a separate claim for each one. Reference the same bar number in each claim submission.

Ready to claim your profile?

It takes less than 5 minutes. Once approved, your profile is verified and you can start connecting with survivors in your area.
